What skills and experience we're looking for

The successful candidate will have;

  • An ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff and other professionals, applying their own strengths and expertise to contribute positively to the overall aims and objectives of the school. Provide effective support for all other members of the school staff by sharing their own knowledge and expertise in a professional and constructive manner.
  • An ability to deal with challenging situations which can require conflict resolution and dealing with emotive situations.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with colleagues, families and external agencies.
  • Ability to generate reports and analyse statistical data.
  • Knowledge of the statutory legislation relating to school attendance, Child Protection and other legislation relating to the school e.g. The Student Act and the Education Acts 1996 and 1997.

The Priory Learning Trust (Somerset Business Award winner for Employer of the Year 2023) is looking to recruit an Attendance Manager to work as Maternity Cover at The King Alfred School - An Academy in Highbridge - rated 'Good' by Ofsted November 2022.

We are looking for an individual with the passion, commitment and skills to ensure that TKASA students attend school consistently – maximising their opportunities for the future. With the support of the Senior Leadership Team and a dedicated Pastoral Team, you will lead the academy’s day to day attendance processes as part of a wider strategy to improve and sustain attendance levels.

The focus is to improve pupil attendance, improve inclusion of targeted pupils and promote pupil progress. The successful candidate will be required to undertake administrative work, support pupils and families, and monitor pupils absent without a valid reason for absence, linking in and working closely with the school's Leadership Team and with the Local Authority. They will work closely with the Heads of Year to improve attendance across the school.

This is an exciting opportunity which requires the successful applicant to be highly organised, competent, and accurate at meeting deadlines.

As part of this role, you will;

  • Supervise the input of attendance data into Sims and Classcharts, identifying any anomalies/errors/omissions and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Produce standard and complex reports for tutors/year leaders/ SLT on a weekly/monthly/termly basis, gathering information, analysing, presenting data for review, and planning further intervention.
  • Provide detailed analysis on request including statistical returns for external agencies.
  • Attend meetings or liaise, as appropriate, with parents, Senior Leadership, school advisors and external agencies to ensure that information is reported fairly and accurately and to contribute to and implement strategies to improve attendance and prevent unauthorised absence.
  • Identify students with problems/at risk, assess the underlying causes of poor attendance and punctuality in individual cases and target resources by effective intervention to maximise attendance and improve punctuality. Effective intervention may involve social services or other agencies to address the specific needs of individual students.
