Thomas Deacon Academy

The Thomas Deacon Academy that we know today opened in 2007 as oneof the UK’s first and largest academies. Whilst a building does not make aschool, it is worth noting that Thomas Deacon Academy was designed by NormanFoster and Partners and in addition to our impressive main academy ourbeautiful 43-acre campus includes TDA Juniors - a modern, light andpurpose-built Key Stage 2 facility - and expansive playing fields and sportingfacilities.

In September 2018, a new extension to the existing main buildingled to new accommodation being created for a sixth form study centre, refectoryexpansion and staff professional learning centre.

Moving forward, ourcore purpose for the Academy is: “To ensure that each student acquires thenecessary knowledge, skills and character to make a positive contribution tosociety and ‘thrive’ as a global citizen.”

The Academy’s core purposeis supported by our six pillars of character which provide the foundations forour TDA Way.  Our character values are: Curiosity, Commitment, Courage,Compassion, Confidence and Courtesy.

In September 2019, TDAreceived a very positive Ofsted report, judging the academy to be Good overall.Ofsted commented favourably, amongst other things, on the overall leadership ofthe academy, good teaching, positive relationships between staff and studentsand students’ behaviour. The Sixth Form was graded as ‘Good’ and recognised asa strength of the Academy. These aspects of the academy have been maintainedalongside the identified areas for development being addressed.

The Role

Thomas Deacon Academy are looking toappoint a Behaviour Support Officer.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing theacademy’s vision for inclusion and high expectations of student behavior and leadand manage the On-Call system so that it provides a comprehensive andconsistent level of support to classroom practitioners in helping to establisha climate which supports effective teaching & learning.

The successful candidate willalso discuss sensitive issues with parents/carers with regard to student behaviour,punctuality or attendance to lessons as well as ensure effective dialogue withparents in accordance with school policies and ensure effective associatedrecording.
