What skills and experience we're looking for
- GCSE Grade C/4+ or above in English (Literacy) and Maths (Numeracy) or numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2. Training in relevant learning and SEND support strategies.
- Awareness of national frameworks, and evidence of working with students with a range of learning difficulties.
- Ability to use ICT effectively to support learning.
- A good working knowledge or willingness to learn the relevant teaching programmes/strategies and a good understanding of child development and learning processes.
- Self-motivated with a desire to improve own practice/knowledge through self-evaluation and working with others.
- Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to young people, their welfare, education and personal development.
What the school offers its staff
- Support the day-to-day running of the Supported Learning Room (SLR), ensuring that students are effectively supervised, and that high standards of behaviour are achieved.
- Ensure students are aware of the procedures and expectations whilst in the SLR and, when necessary, reinforce the reasons for the sanction.
- Be responsible for ensuring there is work provided by staff and ensuring that all work is effectively distributed and collected at the end of each day.
- Develop additional programmes of work for students to complete during periods of time in the SLR in liaison with subject leaders so that student learning is maximised.
