We are looking for a highly-motivated, talented and resourceful Business Development Consultant

to work with us to identify additional income streams for Whitefield Academy Trust. The ideal candidate will have experience of business development and income generation – specifically with schools in the state sector – and will share our values and vision to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people with special needs.

Based in Waltham Forest, Whitefield Academy Trust currently comprises two special schools, a high-quality professional development services, expert outreach provision and an exceptional supported internship programme. We are a learning community seeking to deliver an outstanding education to the children in our care. We are highly ambitious for our future and look to work with others to create new opportunities within the special needs sector.

We already have good income generation streams but know we could be doing better and have lots of untapped potential. The more income we generate, the more we can do to support the amazing children and young people in our schools and ensure they make the progress that is right for them.

We are beginning to develop lettings but know there is more we could be doing with our sites to generate income. We also know we could be doing more to expand our training offer and would like to increase the number of outreach contracts we have by working with other Multi-Academy Trusts or Local Authorities. We have significant special needs expertise and experience within our Trust and wish to harness this to expand our offer and provision.

What the school offers its staff

We are therefore looking to appoint a Business Development Consultant who can identify new profitable income streams and advise us on our approach and strategy.

We are based in Waltham Forest, North London but the role would involve some home working and travel in order to establish business relationships. It could be part or full-time and might suit a small company already working in the field.

This role is a freelance consultancy, salary-generating role. The person we work with will earn an agreed percentage of any profit from income generated, up to an agreed capped limit in the region of £80k.

You will work closely with our Chief Operating Officer, Head of Finance and Head of Professional Development and Outreach Services to:

  • Expand our current income generating operations
  • Identify, pursue and secure new income generating opportunities
  • Evaluate and improve our current marketing strategy

Our current revenue streams include:

  • Providing training and professional development
  • Partnerships with universities
  • Local authority special needs outreach contracts

The right person for this role will have previous experience of business development, preferably in the education sector, although this is not essential as long as you are willing to learn. You will have:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • In-depth understanding of business management and operation
  • Excellent organisation and project management skills
  • Good research and analysis skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Effective problem-solving skills
