Caretaker job summary

Sutton Courtenay Primary School is seeking a School Caretaker to join our team. You will work closely with a Site Maintenance member of staff and the School Business Manager.

The post is for 20 hours per week: 7am -9am and 4pm-6pm each day. There may be some flexibility on the timings however mornings and evenings are required. This position runs all year round, holidays will be 25 days per year pro rata.

The purpose of the role is to work as part of an effective team that ensures the efficient functioning, security and maintenance of the school site. You will be accountable for keeping the school functioning effectively, maintaining the site and grounds to a high standard and providing an environment which enhances learning for students.

Main Duties (more details available in the Job Description document, attached).

• Opening and locking the premises
• Supervising cleaners and conducting deep cleans
• Checking the site daily for hazards and rectifying these
• Carrying out water hygiene checks, fire system checks and keeping the records up to date
• Giving access to contractors for maintenance works
• Waste disposal
• Small scale building works
• Repairs to doors, locks, taps, toilets etc
• Ordering cleaning supplies, toilet paper, hand towels etc.
• Prepare school site for inclement weather conditions including snow, heat, heavy rainfall and arrange the purchase of appropriate materials as required e.g. salt, grit, additional shade
• Ensure that all doors and windows are secured and all lights and heaters are switched off after use
• Take reasonable steps to deter trespass on school premises and unauthorised parking of vehicles
• Advise SBM when external contractors are required
• Working with site maintenance person and cleaners to ensure that school is well presented, clean and safe
