Caretaker job summary

Trinity St Peter’s Primary School is looking for an experienced and reliable Caretaker to support our dedicated team and ensure our school is a safe, welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.


As a Caretaker, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining the school’s facilities, overseeing security, and supporting various maintenance tasks to keep our grounds in top condition. This role offers variety, responsibility, and the opportunity to make a real difference in our school community.


This role will support the Head of Facilities Management by undertaking a range of caretaking duties including security and supervision of the site and related equipment, porterage and maintenance. 


This role will operate as a split shift role, predominately split as 7:30am – 11:00am then 2:45pm – 6:15pm. This role can also be considered for a job share role, if interested in this please specify on your application.


What You’ll Be Doing:


  • Security & Safety: Act as a key holder, ensuring secure access to the buildings and grounds, and following safety protocols.
  • Maintenance & Repairs: Handle first-line repairs, basic redecoration, and maintenance tasks to keep our school in top shape.
  • Support for School Events: Move furniture, assist with event setups, and ensure the site is ready for assemblies and extracurricular activities.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations, including cleaning, safety checks, and dealing with contractors to maintain high standards.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Practical experience in a caretaking or facilities role.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining a safe environment.
  • A good communicator who works well with staff, contractors, and external parties.
  • A flexible, can-do attitude.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
