What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic caretaker to support Whitcliffe Mount with its daily premises needs.

- Ability to work in an environment of constant change and pressure where an amount of personal decision-making and judgement is required.

- Excellent communication skills including verbal communication skills in order to liaise with young people and other staff members.

- Commitment to the safeguarding of children

- Ability to work with a wide range of people of all ages from different backgrounds with different needs and to respond accordingly to support those needs

- Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and relevant COSHH and ESCC regulations

- A willingness to undertake further development/training as appropriate

Further details about the role

To provide a comprehensive, customer led premises service to the academy by the efficient and effective running of maintenance operations

To ensure that the site and its building are efficiently operated on a day to day basis to the standards required by the Head of School and central premises & compliance team, fulfilling all Health and Safety Legislation.

Key outputs

  • Maintain the security of the school premises by locking and unlocking entrances and exits as required, securing the building using the alarm system and reporting any potential security breaches.

- Liaise with outside agencies e.g., Fire, Police ADT etc..

- To be a key holder and attend to call outs outside of school hours.

- To provide access to the school site out of school hours as requested.

  • To ensure that all routine/planned maintenance and building related tasks are scheduled for completion and to monitor results and ensure issues are addressed, including effecting repairs and improvements in order to fulfil the school’s specific responsibilities.

  • Responsible for site safety, ensuring clear and safe access and security of the site and its contents.

  • Work collaboratively with cleaning staff to ensure smooth running and delivery of cleaning services.

  • Report any need for repair or maintenance work to the Senior Caretaker.

  • Maintain and monitor Health and Safety standards, reporting any failures to comply with the school’s statutory obligations in this area and ensure that contractor’s work meets Health and Safety Regulations.

  • To be responsible for the Health and Safety induction of contractors to site and ensure proper procedures are carried out for Asbestos, Hot Works and Legionella.

  • Using the online system – currently Every – to respond proactively to job tickets and resolve any problems or queries in a timely manner. Escalating complex tickets to the Senior Caretaker.

  • As part of your wider duties and responsibilities you are required to promote and actively support the School’s responsibilities towards Safeguarding. Safeguarding is about keeping people safe and protecting people from harm, neglect, abuse and injury. It is about creating safe places, being vigilant and doing something about any concerns you might have. Please refer to the school website for our Safeguarding policy

  • Carry out your duties with due regard to current and future School policies, procedures and relevant legislation. These will be drawn to your attention in your appointment letter, your statement of particulars, induction, and on-going performance development and through School communications.

Whitcliffe Mount School

Whitcliffe Mount School is a large secondary school of 1,250 students in years 7 to 11. Our new purpose-built school was opened in 2017 and boasts state of the art, specialist facilities across the breadth of the curriculum.
