Casual Exam Invigilator job summary

Exam Invigilators - Casual

Kent Range 3 (£12.09 per hour, plus holiday pay)

Required for ASAP

We are looking to recruit candidates to join our Exam Invigilation team in this over-subscribed and successful school. We are a friendly, dynamic and innovative school with an existing reputation for high quality education with a relentless focus upon high expectations and aspirations.

Exam Invigilators required to invigilate a wide range of exams within the school adhering to exam board regulations and school procedures. Duties include collection, distribution and collation of exam papers, briefing candidates with all the necessary information, including making announcements and reading out notices.

Invigilators will need to be alert throughout the exam, remaining vigilant for any instances of malpractice, and must be able to respond appropriately to any candidate issues/problems.

Whilst most exams are still paper-based, most vocational qualifications now have computer-based exams, so invigilators must be confident using IT systems, plus the use of CD players for MFL listening exams, although technical support is always provided.
Invigilators may also be required to act as prompters, readers and/or scribes to candidates requiring one-to-one support during exams.
Successful applicants will become part of our existing team and we ask that you are available to invigilate short as well as longer examinations. Some flexibility may be required with end times of exams as some students are awarded extra time.

Other qualities required:

  • Strong sense of security and responsibility
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability and confidence to speak in front of a group of students
  • Ability to cope with changes/difficult situations
  • Willingness to speak up if you spot something wrong

We have mock exams week and other assessments throughout the year, which will need invigilators, and the summer exam season begins in May and runs through until the end of June.

About Saint George's Church of England School

School type
Academy, Church of England, ages 4 to 18
School size
1473 pupils enrolled
Age range
4 to 18

Saint George's Church of England School is a popular wide ability school for boys and girls. It is located in pleasant green fields and is within easy reach of the A2/M2 motorway with excellent transport links to London. In 2016 it was the most oversubscribed high school in Kent.

Saint George’s Church of England School converted to Academy status in November 2011 and is a founder member of the Aletheia Anglican Academies Trust formed in December 2014.

The school recently underwent a section 8 inspection (February 2017) and was considered to have remained 'Good' overall with 'Outstanding' for Leadership and Management; continued improvement since the last inspection was also recognised. I recommend it to you as a friendly community, where an energetic, willing, supportive staff work enthusiastically and collaboratively to enable students to excel.

We are delighted that we have been able to expand our age range to open a new primary department on site, making Saint George's an all through school from 4-18 from September 2019.
