Are you passionate about food service and creating a warm, welcoming environment for our students?
Would you like to be part of an award winning catering team?
Are you reliable, flexible and committed to being a valuable team member?
If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you at Thomas Deacon Academy.
Your role:
As a Catering Assistant, you will ensure a high level of food preparation, cooking, and service in line with our standards and policies. You will provide courteous and efficient service to students, staff, and visitors, assist with basic cooking, and maintain cleanliness and food hygiene. Your responsibilities include following instructions from the head cook, ensuring food waste bins are emptied and cleaned, and promoting a positive atmosphere within the department.
To excel in this role, you will need basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene, an understanding of health and safety practices, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience in a catering environment and working with children is desirable. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is essential.
About us:
We are an award-winning catering team committed to developing our team members through a safe and relaxed environment. Sustainability is important to us and we continue to source our produce from local suppliers and reduce paper and plastic waste. In support of student learning, we help to develop food awareness initiatives with competitions, food sampling, menu planning and cookery demonstrations. We value compassion in our interactions, confidence in our abilities, and courtesy in our service.
Thomas Deacon Academy’s recent Ofsted inspection in November 2024 noted that “pupils benefit from a welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated. They enjoy celebrating each other’s differences and participating in cultural activities. The school provides an ambitious curriculum that ensures pupils develop a strong foundation of knowledge and skills from Year 3 through to Year 13, preparing them well for their next stage of education or employment. The Ofsted inspection rated all areas, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision, as 'Good'”.
