Catering Assistant job summary
This is a key role in helping to prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals to pupils and staff, while maintaining high standards of hygiene and customer care.
You’ll work closely with the Catering Manager and other team members to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen and dining areas, and occasionally support with food deliveries to other academies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with food preparation, cooking, and serving of lunches.
- Set up the servery, including water jugs and condiments.
- Prepare sandwiches, snacks, and packed lunches for meetings and school trips.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Wash up and clean surfaces, floors, walls, and equipment.
- Report any equipment faults or damage to the Catering Manager.
- Drive the minibus to deliver meals to other academies as required.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children in line with school policies.
- Has experience working in a school kitchen or similar catering environment.
- Demonstrates good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Has excellent customer care skills and a friendly, approachable manner.
- Works well as part of a team and supports colleagues.
- Maintains a high standard of personal presentation and hygiene.
- Is punctual, with strong time management skills.
- Has a flexible approach to work and can adapt to changing needs.
- Shows empathy for young people and understands the school environment.
- Is hardworking, reliable, and committed to delivering a quality service.
- Can follow instructions accurately and work independently when needed.
