Catering Assistant job summary

An opportunity to join the Catering Team at Holsworthy Community College to prepare, cook and serve meals to students and colleagues. Duties will include, food preparation, cooking, kitchen hygiene, cleaning and general kitchen duties although this is not an exhaustive list.

The Role

School Meals

  • Daily Food Preparation and cooking.
  • General cleaning and dishwashing.
  • To work on your own and as part of a successful team.
  • To assist young people to choose a balanced meal.
  • Preparing service area for both break and lunch time service.
  • Prepare and load meals for 4 primary school ready for collection.
  • Record daily, weekly and periodic food safety data via the food safety logbook.
  • Operate electronic tills and record sales in line with kitchen policy.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy service and canteen area.
  • Ensure students facing fridges and displays are stocked fully and stock rotation always applied.
  • All other duties required to assist with the smooth running of the kitchen and areas of service and to assist catering colleagues.
  • To always have and deliver excellent standards in food preparation and customer service
  • Embrace change and be proactive in sharing your ideas to improve the catering function at Holsworthy Community College and the wider Trust.

General

1. To encourage good behaviour by the effective use of the school’s Behaviour Policy.

2. To report to SLT any untoward circumstances, eg Safeguarding concerns.

All relevant training will be provided.

Note: A courteous and helpful manner is always required.

The performance of any other duties within the general range of the job description as required by the Catering Manager and the wider Trust.

The successful candidate will be required to come to DMAT HQ to complete mandatory training.

Training Details:

Location: Central Head Office (Wardhayes) 8 Simmons Way, Okehampton, EX20 1PY

Duration: Monday – Friday

Purpose: To provide comprehensive training on company policies, procedures, and systems necessary for successful integration into the role.

Training Schedule: Daily sessions from 9am to 4pm, with breaks provided.
