What skills and experience we're looking for

About the role:

Bridge Academy Trust, a Multi-Academy Trust comprising 11 schools in Essex, is seeking to appoint a Chair of Governors for Notley High School and Braintree Sixth Form.

Whether you’re new to school governance or have experience of this type of role, we would love to hear from you.

The Local Governing Committees are passionate about their roles in ensuring the schools achieve the goals they have set by:

  • Working as a team to ensure the school provides a good quality education for all its pupils.
  • Supporting and challenging the Headteacher.
  • Planning the school’s future direction, supporting the aims of the school and helping to ensure that they are achieved.
  • Ensuring that the school functions within the legal and regulatory framework of the sector and in line with the school’s governing document.

At this time, we are particularly keen to recruit individuals with:

  • Experience or capability to chair the Local Governing Committee.
  • The commitment and flexibility to be able to devote sufficient time to this important role.
  • A willingness to learn. A high level of understanding of education is not required.

The commitment that we expect of a Governor is normally to attend 4 Local Governing Committee meetings each academic year (held either in school and usually during the evening) and the Trust’s annual Governors’ Conference, along with occasional special meetings such as exclusions or complaints. In addition, the Chair would be expected to attend a termly Chairs’ meeting and maintain regular contact with their Headteacher. All Governors are expected and encouraged to visit the school for monitoring visits on a termly basis.

The Governor role is unremunerated but presents a great opportunity for self-development, provides the opportunity to give something back to the local community and to help children achieve the best education possible.

How to Apply:

To apply for the role, please complete the application form and recruitment monitoring form demonstrating how your skills and experience match the role and return directly to the school’s Clerk via clerk@bridgeacademytrust.org

Informal enquiries regarding the role can be made to the school office via email to clerk@bridgeacademytrust.org

What the school offers its staff
