Charmouth Primary School - 1:1 Teaching Assistant (Fixed Term 32.5 hours per week) job summary

The First Federation Trust, a Multi Academy Trust of 29 primary schools across Devon and Dorset, including Mrs Ethelston's CE Primary Academy.

Charmouth Primary School and Nursery in West Dorset is situated on the beautiful Jurassic Coast in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This modern, purpose-built school lies in the heart of the traditional seaside village, only a stone’s throw from the beach where the school extends its learning with outdoor activities including rock pooling, art, beach cleans and more.

The school provides for children from the age of three, offering a friendly, safe and nurturing environment with excellent connections with the local community. Based on the edge of west Dorset and East Devon, the school can be reached from Exeter, Taunton and Weymouth.

We are seeking to appoint a 1:1 to work with a pupil with additional needs including some behaviour challenges.

  • To promote inclusion through the development of social skills, language and emotional well-being.
  • To liaise with other professionals both within and outside the school.
  • To show a high degree of initiative and be able to react to given situations with integrity and compassion.

Desirable characteristics:

  • Experience of working with SEND pupils would be advantageous
  • Experience supporting children with behavioural difficulties

This role is offered on a fixed term basis, initially until Easter but with the possibility of extension linked to pupil funding.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 17 December - candidates will be given a task prepared by the class teacher and asked to work with the pupil on a 1:1 basis within the class. No preparation will be required for this. This will be followed by a short interview with the Head of School, SENDCo and Trust Business Manager.
