We have an exciting opportunity for a Chef Manager/Catering Manager to join our thriving school from January 2025. The school operates its’ own in-house catering service and applicants should have 2-3 years’ experience of providing catering services within a large scale catering operation, together with relevant catering qualifications. Experience of line managing and co-ordinating a team of catering staff is essential to ensure that the appropriate level of service can be provided to a population of approximately 1450 students.
This is an important position in the school structure, managing a catering service which not only provides high quality meals, but also considers issues such as healthy eating as an important part of what the school catering service offers. The post holder will be central to ensuring that the team of six catering staff are effectively led and organised in order to produce and maintain high standards of food hygiene, quality and presentation.
The person appointed will also have the scope to develop the catering service and how it can best serve the school community. This may require a creative approach combined with flexibility and determination.
Applicants should be educated to Level 3 standard or be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and experience.
The person appointed will be confident, well organised and an effective communicator, with the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues at different levels and a commitment to the work of the school.

Burford School is a highly successful 11-18 rural comprehensive school with Academy status. Established in 1571, we currently have around 1400 students on roll with a strong Sixth Form of over 200 students. Situated high above the town of Burford, on the eastern edge of the Cotswolds, the school includes a Boarding House with just under 100 boarders from both the UK and abroad.
We serve a widespread rural community and close links are maintained with our nine partner Primary Schools which provide two thirds of our annual intake of approximately 200 students. Some students travel considerable distances from beyond our catchment area, to take up places at the school due to its excellent reputation for academic success, extra-curricular activities and pastoral care, and the growing Sixth Form attracts new members each year. Our aim is to recruit colleagues who will be stimulated by the prospect of working hard to share in our success.
