What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking a skilled and qualified Chef to manage our in-house dining services, based in the Exmouth area. As part of our dedicated team, you will contribute to our renowned dining service, which emphasizes home-cooked meals made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Our “family dining” approach encourages older children to serve younger ones, encouraging a nurturing and communal dining environment. The menu is designed and delivered across all the schools in the Trust. We also cook for another local school, Clyst St. Mary Primary School and will soon be cooking daily meals for a local nursery too. You will be supported by the Head Chefs and the wider catering team to provide high quality meals which are served to our pupils and staff daily. We are keen to grow this number by encouraging all children to have a cooked dinner each day

The successful candidate will need to not only be a great chef but have a love of supporting children and be able to lead a team, be flexible, dependable, and creative. We wish to employ someone who enjoys good food and will embrace the school’s aim to deliver a ‘family dining’ experience, and ensure we deliver the highest quality of seasonal food served fresh to the table. You will need to be able to hear and respond positively to feedback, especially from children who ‘rate what they ate’ each day

What the school offers its staff

As well as membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, we have enhanced staff pay and conditions through the provision of a health scheme, a cycle to work scheme, an electric car scheme, performance related pay progression and subsidised meals. The successful candidate will be provided with state-of-the-art IT equipment to assist them in fulfilling their duties alongside the cooking. For more information about our dining service, please take a look at Cornerstone Dining Club.

Marpool Primary School (MPS), joined our Trust in September 2024 to serve the children of the local community. It is part of the Cornerstone Academy Trust, a multi-academy trust that provides 21st century education across four schools as well as professional teacher training through the Cornerstone Teaching Academy.

Digital tools are going to be a critical part of your child’s future. Whether your child is using a computer to edit video, a waterproof device to collect data in forest school, or developing literacy, free thinking, creative and communication skills in the TV studio, the ethos of MPS is to use the technology alongside excellent teaching to provide an outstanding education, packed with opportunity. However, balance is very important in education, as in all areas of life. The children will also play and learn outdoors, at forest school and on the allotment as well as in sports teams and they have the chance to sing in a choir, play a musical instrument and learn to cook.
