What skills and experience we're looking for

At Killisick Junior School, our belief in "Believe to Achieve and Succeed" drives our commitment to educational excellence and unrivalled personal development. We're not just a school; we're a family fostering a culture where every success, whether academic, artistic, or personal, is cherished and celebrated. Our holistic approach includes a well-sequenced, carefully constructed curriculum which is knowledge-rich and takes account of our local community but extends to offering a nurturing environment for our children's holistic growth, with outdoor learning and mental health and wellbeing playing a crucial part in our curriculum. As a result, our end of Key Stage 2 outcomes are consistently above the National average and children leave Killisick well-prepared for secondary school. Are you the person who can take our curriculum to the next level, allowing our children the best opportunities for success?

As a new dynamic leadership team, the Head and Deputy are expanding the team. They are looking to appoint an experienced Upper Key Stage 2 class teacher who can drive forward standards in teaching and learning, helping to deliver our vision of educational excellence and unrivalled personal development, who has the experience and expertise to lead a whole school strategic area with a Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR) for a key area of the school – our Curriculum. Now is the time to join Killisick and be a part of something really exciting, helping to shape the future direction of the school.

Join our dedicated team, where collaboration, continuous professional development, and unwavering support from a fantastic team of Teaching Assistants and a visible Senior Leadership Team (SLT) are integral parts of our ethos. Apply now and be part of a community where educational excellence meets a nurturing, celebratory, family environment.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about creating a curriculum that produces incredible people who are empowered to reach their full potential.
  • Has a solid understanding of the National Curriculum, in particular its purposes and aims, and knows how to bring it to life.
  • Will coordinate the construction of enquiries which take children on a journey of academic discovery resulting in memorable learning and a social legacy.
  • Will seek out purposeful experiences, make poignant content choices and design authentic outcomes which allow children to demonstrate their learning and build their cultural capital.
  • Will work alongside teachers, the Teaching and Learning Lead and SENDCo to ensure the curriculum is implemented taking into account the research into how children learn and is adapted to ensure success for all.
  • Will adopt and adapt purposeful assessment practice so that our children know more, remember more, understand more and flourish as individuals.
  • Will support subject leaders in the leadership of their subjects, ensuring the curriculum is progressive, cohesive and owned by all.
  • Will enter into our dynamic Professional Learning Community for Curriculum Leads to seek out and share best practice.
  • Values and promotes diversity, ensuring that all children, regardless of background or ability, have equal access to educational opportunities.
