What skills and experience we're looking for

We require a teacher for Key Stage 2.We want somebody brilliant who cares and isn't afraid to show it.A teacher who is driven by seeing a community succeed through combined efforts.

In return you will benefit from:

  • A committed group of people who like a laugh, balance their work-life through our structured and successful wellbeing approaches, and who want to be part of a momentum to bring change.
  • Support. There's no point writing minutiae of what this entails - because it's different for everybody reading. But we have structures in place and a wealth of experience to get you whatever you need. Coaching, career development, subject knowledge support etc.

What the school offers its staff

Mason Moor isn't your average primary school and you would be joining at a VERY exciting time. Projects that you'll be part of include:

  • Creating a brand-new librarywith money to buy exciting new texts. (We are part of the National Literacy Trust - 'Every school needs a library' and our pupils recently met Queen Camilla!
  • A new outdoor classroomis being installed this summer which will mean that all children will benefit from timetabled learning in our very own woods!
  • A project with Saints Football club will see us develop a MUGA over the next year.
  • A connection with Southampton City Council as we install a community hub within our grounds.

Further details about the role

Deprivation does not determine destiny!I hope that caught your attention.

I am Daniel, the executive headteacher of Mason Moor and St. Mary's - two schools totalling almost 1000 pupils in the city of Southampton. I was motivated to lead the schools, upon learning of their recent struggles - high teacher turnover, difficulty recruiting in the city and a lack of curriculum thinking to inspire and motivate the children.

I too grew up in a similar area to Mason Moor, in Manchester. I had a rocky start to education in a school that had suffered turbulence. I didn't read or write until I was at secondary, I had a statement of need and we were poor.I know the struggles that families who I serve face, because I've been in their shoes! My resolve to make a difference comes from a place of determination that we can change life-chances, improve a community and develop an institution that we can be proud of. Raising aspirations, therefore, is as big a part of the mission as raising their attainment. But it isn't for everyone and if you continue reading, I'm hoping it's because you might be that person!

Commitment to safeguarding

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and
expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be
subject to satisfactory references, health checks and DBS clearance.

We are keen to receive applications from experienced as well as early career teachers – we
know that both add a dynamic to school that will support our continued growth and
development.

- We serve an increasingly diverse community and one where deprivation is high with
many of our parents and carers living on Southampton’s largest social-housing
estate.
- In September 2022, we welcomed a new headteacher and newly established senior
team.
Our offer to every teacher:
• Bespoke professional development opportunities.
• Cutting-edge technology for the planning and delivery of lessons. Use of multi-
collaboration platforms to simplify the process of lesson planning.
• A device to help your planning, preparation and assessment.
• A ‘Staff wellbeing charter’ with perks including, a paid days leave throughout the year for
personal wellbeing. A commitment to reduce planning.
• The introduction of a new curriculum for non-core subjects that includes the sequential
planning, learning resources and visuals.
• A feedback policy that focuses on providing children with a dialogue to support
improvement - not onerous marking!
