Class Teacher job summary

Cicely Haughton School are looking for an inspiring and imaginative teacher who is able to adapt their style of teaching to ensure that learning is fun, practical and creative. The successful candidate would need to be able to demonstrate they can meet the needs of primary aged children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties in their own class and across the wider school community. We are a primary residential school for over 50 boys and girls who have experienced rejection and often exclusion from mainstream education. We are part of Manor Hall Academy Trust. Our curriculum delivers meaningful learning activities which ensure that all children make progress while they are with us. Our aim is to enable children to learn in an environment where basic skills, necessary for the next stage of their learning, are seen as essential to their overall success.

The successful candidate will be working in a highly supportive learning environment where experienced staff supports the needs of all. Class groups typically have eight pupils and at least one teaching assistant.

The school benefits from being situated in a rural location where the outdoor areas become very much a part of the classroom environment. We have school vehicles available so that each class group is able to take learning off site. We believe that children need an opportunity to develop social skills in a place where their efforts to change their negative and aggressive responses are praised, all the time and by everyone.

The successful candidate may come from any phase (primary or secondary) and we would welcome applications from newly qualified teachers too. Your approach and qualities are equally as important as your experience. Previous SEN experience is not necessary as relevant training will be provided. Our priority is to appoint an outstanding practitioner to make a positive contribution to the team. Please state clearly in your application your curricular strengths and areas of expertise. Whoever you are, you will be committed to promoting the joy of learning and the best educational opportunities for all pupils whilst fostering a nurturing and empathetic approach.

It is a recommended that all interested candidates take the opportunity to visit the school prior to applying for the post. A guided tour of the school will be offered either individually or as part of a group at set times to minimise disruption to learning and the children’s routines.

Our trustees offer strong leadership to the academy and are committed to honest self-evaluation and continual improvement. They have a wide range of skills and provide challenge and support in equal measure.

Please note that references will be sought prior to interview and shortlisted candidates will be visited in their current school to observe them teaching.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff are subject to an enhanced DBS check. A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.

Informal discussions with the Headteacher are welcomed. Please contact the Headteacher -Janey Hancock directly on 07833 229214 within school hours.

Please apply online via MyNewTerm.

CLOSING DATE: Friday 21st June at 12 noon.

Interviews will be held in school on Friday 28th June 2024.
