Class Teacher job summary

Purpose:
Teach and inspire a class of pupils in Key Stage 2, so that all pupils enjoy learning and achieve.
Areas of Responsibility and Key Accountability:
1. Strategic Development
To contribute to the discussion of the school’s aims and participate in the implementation of Connaught’s values, vision and rationale by implementing agreed policies, plans, targets and pedagogy.
2. Behaviour, Well Being, Health and Safety
To create a safe, disciplined, secure and stimulating classroom environment ensuring the personal welfare of every child.
To understand that Safeguarding is what we do for all children and young people to keep them safe whilst in our care and Child Protection describes the policy and procedures specifically for those young people who are at risk of serious harm or have been seriously harmed. All safeguarding policies and procedures must be applied.
3. Teaching and Learning
To be a creative, innovative and reflective teacher who is passionate and positive about children’s learning.
To have an effective current knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching and learning and behaviour management strategies and understand their application for personalised learning.
To have secure knowledge of a range of assessment procedures, implementing them effectively to develop learning.

Key Tasks
• Teach and inspire a class of children to learn and make progress.
• Plan, prepare and deliver the Connaught Curriculum to all the children with due consideration for inclusion.
• Follow the school’s policy on Teaching and Learning alongside the individual curriculum policies.
• Monitor, assess and record children’s achievements and keep evidence of achievement in line with the school’s policies - using the latest technology
• Create displays that are stimulating and relevant and be responsible for maintaining agreed areas around the school.
• Be a participating member of the staff team, attending appropriate meetings both within school and outside the school.
• Implement the school’s Behaviour Policy by establishing the standards which form the basis for children to follow the school’s core values.
• Share in a variety of assemblies by attending and organising class participation as appropriate.
• Be professional in working with members of staff, parents, governors, outside agencies and visitors in school.
• Contribute to the greater life of the school in many ways e.g. through involvement in information evenings, PTA events and by running at least one after school activity.
• Undertake any other reasonable duties as asked for by the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications
Essential : Degree Level Qualification Maths & English GCSE or equivalent • Qualified Teacher status

Desirable: Evidence of continuous INSET and or commitment to further professional development

Experience
Essential: Teaching at Key Stage 2

Desirable : • Teaching across the whole primary range
• Working in partnership with parents

Knowledge and understanding
Essential: Effective teaching and learning styles
• Practice and theory to provide effectively for the individual needs of all children
• statutory National Curriculum requirements at the appropriate key stage
• Monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting of pupils’ progress
• Statutory requirements of legislation concerning Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, SEND and Child Protection
• Positive links necessary within school and with all its stakeholders
Desirable: Evidence of pedagogical research to improve teaching
