Sparken Hill Academy is a busy 575 place Primary school with a 130 place Nursery, in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. We are an inclusive school, serving predominantly the Manton area of Worksop.

Everything we do at Sparken Hill Academy is centred around creating lifelong opportunities for our students, who are polite, friendly and well-behaved with great enthusiasm for learning. Each and every child plays a valuable role in creating the diverse, welcoming and positive culture which makes Sparken Hill Academy an inspiring and uplifting place of work. We see collaboration as essential in improving outcomes for children. The school is fortunate enough to sit at the heart of an extremely supportive local community with which we are committed to maintaining a positive relationship. We also have close links to children’s centres and local not-for-profit organisations which enhance the lives of young people.

We pride ourselves on our effective teaching and learning practices. Through a warm and nurturing environment, where children feel safe, happy and valued, we infuse a “no excuses” culture to guide our pupils to high aspirations and achievements. We promote the importance of hard work and education to attain success.

In 2012 the school was recognised as the country’s 25th most improved school. Attainment and progress rates have increased every year for the past 5 years. Our October 2017 Ofsted report was very positive; overall the school was graded “Good” and Ofsted noted that there was considerable outstanding teaching. We set our sights on “Outstanding” in our next inspection. As a school, we are forward-thinking in our approach to learning. We are involved in a wide range of projects and initiatives which enhance our children’s education and learning opportunities so that they achieve the best possible outcomes. Constantly reflecting on and developing our teaching and learning practices are pivotal to our success as a school. A committed, hard-working and enthusiastic staff, who consistently go the extra mile to create the best outcomes for our students, ensure the school’s continued positive progress.

We are extremely fortunate in that our school is housed in a large, contemporary building which was built in 2011, to accommodate the adjoining of two local schools. Our classrooms are large, light and airy and each one has an interactive LCD board and an array of Learning Technologies. Folding walls between classrooms allow for increased collaboration through team teaching. We invest heavily in ICT and are nationally recognised for our work in this field. We use our extensive grounds for a wide range of extra-curricular activities and outstanding lunchtime activities. Sparken Hill Academy has a strong sporting reputation and all children are encouraged to take part in our huge array of extra-curricular activities including drama, football, netball, rugby, cricket, ICT, art and film club. The children also produce their own radio broadcasts and televised news reports via “SparkTV”. We invest very heavily in the teaching of music with a range of instruments being taught, by our resident FT specialist music teacher, to whole classes from FS to Y6 (Violins, Cellos, Steel Pans, Taiko Drums to name but a few!). The provision of such opportunities is a crucial part of our commitment to broadening horizons and raising aspirations throughout the school. We also have a farm with sheep, goats and chickens as well as a school dog, Nancy!

We’re very proud of our achievements but we also recognise the importance of sustaining our success. This is an ideal opportunity for a candidate to broaden their experience working with a strong team. We are all very excited about the opportunities the role will create and the challenges ahead.

We are actively involved in developing learning for life, with our children, our community, our staff and governors and with colleagues in other schools. There are opportunities for all staff to develop their skills and experience, and to influence teaching and learning throughout the school and beyond.

We can offer you excellent CPD opportunities, a warm friendly school, super children, a fantastic setting and an opportunity to make a huge difference to the lives of many young people and the local community as a whole.

If this excites you then you may well be the person we’re looking for!

Please feel free to call for a chat to discuss the role or visit the school, we are very proud of our school and would love to show you around. Please telephone the school office to make an appointment.

I look forward to meeting you.
