Langwathby CE Primary School is a village primary school with an integrated nursery. It serves a wide geographical area between the Eden and the Pennines, taking children from 14 villages in the Eden Valley.

Langwathby CE School is at the heart of a rural community. It is a happy and vibrant school encouraging pro-active and independent learning for all children. We are a school that puts a high value on creativity through a broad and balanced curriculum. Independent learning through play and real-life contexts is a key feature of learning at Langwathby. We believe learning should be creative, fun and engaging.

At Langwathby CE School we aim to help children:
* Develop lively, inquiring minds, together with a readiness to apply themselves to new experiences;
* Acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes they will need in later study and in adult life;
* Use language and mathematics confidently and effectively in all areas of the curriculum;
* Respect religious and moral values; to gain an understanding and respect for other beliefs and ways of life;
* Value all living things – developing as custodians of the nature world.

We want each child to become increasingly autonomous. By that we mean children taking responsibility for themselves and their learning. It means an increasing independence - the ability to work on their own - and the ability to work co-operatively. It also includes a degree of self-esteem - the confidence to tackle new things.

As a Church School we expect all staff to demonstrate God and Jesus’s teachings through their actions and, most importantly our relationships with each other, our pupils and our families.

Our church school ethos is based on the Christian teachings of:
* Leadership through service;
* Inclusion, nurturing and compassion;
* Stewardship of the created world;
* Thinking about other people;
* Encouraging spirituality by valuing creativity and the arts.

We believe it is important to foster our church school heritage but also to develop children’s cultural awareness in an area that is predominantly a mono-culture. Our curriculum provision ensures that children develop a good understanding of their Christian heritage alongside an understanding of the richness of our multi-cultural society.
