What skills and experience we're looking for

The Governors of Ponsbourne St Mary’s Primary School are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and caring person with high expectations to join our team as a Class Teacher from September 2024. This is offered as a permanent post. We are a popular small school with four mixed-age classes. We can offer flexibility on which class the successful candidate will teach. We are able to consider applications from people looking for full-time or part-time (job share) roles.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Brings enthusiasm, energy and love for teaching;
  • Can support our Christian ethos and values;
  • Can establish and maintain good relationships and work well as part of a small team;
  • Is a good classroom practitioner who has high expectations as a teacher;
  • Is flexible and ready to embrace the unique rewards and challenges of working in a small school;
  • Could take responsibility as a subject leader;
  • Has high standards of professional conduct and personal integrity.

If you are interested in the role, we would love to hear from you and strongly encourage visits to our school. Please contact our Headteacher, Mrs Sarah Bridgmanhead@ponsbourne.herts.sch.uk01707 872395.

At Ponsbourne St Mary’s, we are committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

To help us meet our high standards and aspirations of a fully diverse and inclusive workplace, we strongly encourage suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply.

What the school offers its staff

We can offer you:

  • A friendly team with excellent support staff in every class and motivated children;
  • A commitment to your CPD. We invest well in staff development using links to the Diocese of St Albans, HfL Education, NPQ programmes and coaching;
  • An opportunity to be part of the Diocesan group of church schools with strong links to our local parish and community;
  • An experienced, supportive Governing Board;
  • A forward thinking and outward looking school with good links to other settings. We work in formal collaboration with two other small schools.
  • The 'best of both worlds' in our collaboration of schools. We enjoy the ‘family feel’ of a small setting where we get to know each child really well, along with the benefits and security that comes from working as part of a larger organisation;
  • Opportunities to make a difference in refining our curriculum further as a subject leader in a subject that suits your interests and experience;
  • A well-resourced school in a beautiful village with a popular deli that does great take aways next door!
