Class Teacher job summary
Although our pupils are aged between 11-16 years, they have often experienced significant gaps in their learning from moving through several primary schools or poor attendance. Therefore, their learning levels may be significantly below age-related expectations which, together with self-esteem or SEMH needs, require their teaching to be dynamic, flexible and exciting in order to engage.
Our class sizes are set at a maximum of 9 pupils and teachers are supported by at least one Learning Support Assistant within the classroom. Often, class sizes are smaller than this due to the broad range of 1:1 / paired learning and enrichment interventions in place throughout the day.
We are rated Outstanding by Ofsted and have been oversubscribed for several years.
What are we looking for?
The school are looking to appoint a committed and driven individual to join our teaching staff from April 2023. You must possess QTS at either primary or secondary level. Experience of teaching across the full breath of a primary curriculum would be advantageous.
We particularly welcome applicants with skills, hobbies and experience of teaching an activity which could be incorporated into our enrichment curriculum. Previous examples include fishing, cycling, drama and yoga but we are always looking for new opportunities to extend the enrichment offer to our pupils.
Is this you?
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an innovative and creative approach to teaching and learning, and articulate a vision for improving pupils’ literacy and numeracy. Their style and approach to designing programmes of learning should be flexible and ingenious enough to incorporate the following core values in our pupils:
- Resilience
- Going beyond your borders
- Reflection
- Balanced responses
- Communication
- Independence
The post is suitable for ECTs or experienced teachers, but we are looking for the right person for the role: someone who is an excellent teacher but more importantly, has a genuine regard for children and a willingness to invest in the development of positive relationships to gain meaningful destinations for all.
What can we offer?
Salary: Main Pay Scale: M1 – M6/ UPS plus SEN allowance
CPD: Full induction training; a range of CPD opportunities and professional support through the school; participation in an exciting research and development programme focusing on effective pedagogy with pupils who challenge learning in a traditional classroom.
