What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking an understanding but uncompromising teacher for our older pupils, who love their school and relish engaged and committed teachers. Applicants should have recent and successful experience in Year 6, including guiding pupils through their end of KS2 SATs.

The Class Teacher is required to promote a stimulating, communication friendly and inclusive learning environment which encourages pupils’ independence and enthusiasm for learning. To ensure our children reach their full potential, the postholder must also seek to make children feel secure and valued, and communicate effectively with parents / carers.

Qualifications and experience

ESSENTIAL

  • Qualified teacher status

  • Degree

  • Successful primary teaching experience in Upper Key Stage 2

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of working with EAL and New To English pupils

  • Successful experience in preparing pupils for KS2 SATs

Skills and knowledge

ESSENTIAL

  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and end of year / end of stage expectations

  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies

  • A good understanding of how children learn, in particular, recent research-based pedagogy in reading, writing and maths

  • Proven ability to understand the barriers to learning that pupils may face and to adapt teaching to meet pupils’ needs

  • Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils

  • Knowledge of guidance and requirements around safeguarding children

  • Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies

  • Good ICT skills, particularly using ICT to support learning

DESIRABLE

  • Recent relevant training in Communication Friendly practices, in support of SpLCN, EAL and New to English pupils

  • Knowledge of Maths Mastery approach to teaching & learning

  • A commitment to getting the best outcomes for all pupils and promoting the ethos and values of the school

  • High expectations for children’s attainment and progress, promoting a ‘no excuses’ culture

  • Patience and good humour

  • Ability to remain calm, positive and effective under pressure and to prioritise workload
