What skills and experience we're looking for

Due to expansion Great Oaks School requires a teacher from September 2024. Great Oaks is a secondary specialist school catering for young people with a range of complex learning difficulties in Southampton.

The successful candidate will need to have experience of teaching or working with young people with Special Educational Needs in the mainstream or special school sector at either Primary or Secondary level . You will be required to teach all subjects on the curriculum.

The post is open to experienced and newly qualified teachers and is likely to be with class of children with severe learning difficulties. Experience of working with children with severe or profound learning difficulties is therefore required.

Great Oaks is part of the Solent Special Education Trust which also includes Rosewood Free School.

Working closely with the Headteacher, you will drive school improvement, support staff development, and contribute to the well-being and personalised success of each student, ensuring they achieve their full potential in all aspects of their development.
As Deputy Headteacher, you will be a key leader in delivering our vision and values across all Great Oaks School sites. You will take an active role in whole-school leadership, deputising for the Headteacher when required and collaborating with stakeholders to maintain high standards of Education. You will work closely with the Assistant Headteachers to ensure oversight of key responsibilities. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader with a passion for special education and a commitment to ensuring all students can succeed.

Depending on the outcome of the recruitment process, there may be an opportunity to appoint more than one Deputy.
