At Micklem Primary School we want every day to count for our children. As a team we work hard to ensure that learning opportunities are exciting. As far as possible first hand experiences are used to stimulate curiosity and engage the children. We are lucky that we have extensive grounds for outdoor learning which include a small wood, a pond and raised beds for gardening. We have a supportive Governing Body who value and encourage enrichment opportunities as part of the children's entitlement. The ‘whole child’ is at the centre of everything we do and part of our ethos is to develop something that each child can hold as ‘unique’ to them, be it academic, music, sport, performance, leadership or a combination.

We have a nurturing ethos for the children, including a learning mentor and we aim to further develop our provision for building confidence and self-esteem through the introduction of our own Forest School. We also work hard at valuing staff wellbeing and workload. Our marking and planning policies have been reviewed to ensure that expectations have an impact on the children rather that staff workload. There are many opportunities for professional development and these are tailored to development and career aspiration.

At Micklem Primary School the health, safety and wellbeing of every child is our top priority. We expect all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment to safeguarding our pupils. If shortlisted, candidates will be asked to complete a self-declaration where they will be required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020).

The successful candidate will be subject to satisfactory recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, medical clearance and satisfactory references. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified individuals regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion. Please note, references will be taken up before interview.
