Clerk to Governors job summary
Horley Infant School currently has an exciting opportunity for an excellent administrator to join the team as our Clerk to Governors! This is a fixed term position to provide legal and administrative support to the School Committee. It would be an ideal opportunity for someone who is looking to work on a part-time/flexible basis.
The role involves:
- providing administrative support to the School Committee, for example: arranging meetings, writing minutes, keeping accurate and up to date records, supporting systems for the review of policies
- supporting the development and performance of governors in their role, for example: updating them on changes in legislation and policy, informing them of appropriate training and helping them understand their duties
- offering advice to governors and the school on the correct governance procedures and how to improve governance
Throughout the appointment, there will be support from the administrative and leadership team within school as well as the Central Team from Greensand so you can be the best version of yourself possible.
This is a fixed term contract from 1 September 2025 until 31 August 2026. The role is for 3 hours per week, across 39 weeks (117 hours per annum), with meetings taking place in the evenings during term-time. Most of the work can be done at home with attendance at meetings throughout the year. Meetings are scheduled for 2 October , 27 November 2025, 5 February, 12 March, 14 May and 2 July 2026. Apart from scheduled training sessions and Governor meetings, other work and meetings can be organised flexibly.
We are looking for:
- A calm, organised person who has a good level of education and has excellent oral, literacy and IT skills
- Some experience of working in this field is desirable but consideration will be given to candidates able to demonstrate the appropriate skills
- The successful candidate will be willing to undertake training in this area
