What skills and experience we're looking for
Chef experience in a commercial kitchen
Competent knife skills
Pastry knowledge
Good foundation of food preparation methods including balancing meals, portioning and stock rotation
Interest in cuisine world food and willingness to expand knowledge of food
Ability to read and implement instructions, such as Health & Safety and Food Hygiene regulations
Able to use and clean machinery and light equipment
Work effectively in a busy and hectic environment
Able to encourage children to select a balanced meal
Able to communicate and relate well with all kitchen staff, school staff and pupils

Main Purpose:
To support the Sous Chef and Head Chef with tasks related to meal preparation, maintenance, logistics and safety and hygiene.
To support the kitchen’s efficiency and safety without compromising the quality of the meals produced.
Key Accountabilities
- Prepare meals in accordance with an agreed seasonal menu cycle
- Work in accordance with the school food standards, allowing for any allergen issues
- Prepare and bake fresh breads
- Ensure full adherence to recipes, food presentation standards and portion control
- Have a working knowledge of multiple cooking methods and an understanding of correct cooking procedures such as blanching, searing, grilling and steaming
- Prepare meals to meet specific dietary and cultural requirements
- Work as part of a team and contribute to the work of the unit
- Take part in the school’s performance management system
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with Academy staff and Customers through regular personal contact, taking part in meetings and training organised in the unit.
