Communications & Engagement Officer job summary

Cumbria Education Trust is creating a new role of Communications & Engagement Officer to strengthen how we connect with our schools, staff, families and communities during an exciting period of growth and development.

This is an interim opportunity, but one with real scope. As our Trust evolves, there is clear potential for this role to become permanent, shaped by impact, need and contribution.

The Role

Working closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager, you will play a key role in delivering clear, purposeful and engaging communications across the Trust.

This is a genuinely hands‑on role, ideal for someone who enjoys being out in schools and communities, listening, capturing stories and turning them into meaningful communications that bring our Trust’s work to life.

You will support:

  • Trust‑wide communications for staff, schools and communities
  • Internal communications that connect people and build understanding
  • Community engagement activity that strengthens relationships with families and local partners
  • Content creation across a range of channels, sharing the real stories of our schools

This role will give you the opportunity to influence how our Trust communicates, both internally and externally, at a time when those connections matter more than ever.

Why This Role Is Different

This is not a desk‑based communications role. It is:

  • Visible and people‑focused, based on relationships and presence
  • Grounded in the day‑to‑day life of schools and communities
  • A chance to help shape a developing Trust communications function
  • An opportunity to show initiative, creativity and leadership

For the right person, this role offers valuable experience, influence and the chance to grow with the organisation.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in communications, engagement or a related field
  • Is confident communicating with a wide range of audiences
  • Enjoys building relationships and working collaboratively
  • Can turn information and conversations into clear, engaging content
  • Is organised, proactive and comfortable working across multiple settings

Experience in education, the public sector or community‑focused organisations would be an advantage, but is not essential.
