What skills and experience we're looking for

This is a voluntary Community Governor role for our growing Multi Academy Trust for Thorns Primary School. We welcome community governors who have a passion for achieving the best possible educational experience for the children in our local community. In addition, we want our community governors to work in a supportive but challenging way with the Senior Leadership of the school. As a community governor, you will play a particularly vital role in ensuring that the committee is connected with, and is aware of the views of, parents and the local community.

To be a community governor you should have:

• A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children.

• Good inter-personal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills.

Expectations of governors:

The governing body has a vital role to play in making sure every child receives the best possible education. This is achieved by ensuring that governors have the necessary skills and commitment to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school. The particular skills that governing bodies need will vary and will include personal qualities and capabilities, such as the ability and willingness to learn and work as part of a team. It is expected that governors will make use of the various training opportunities available to them and play a full part in the work of the governing body.
