Conyers is an 11-18 academy serving the small town of Yarm, outlying villages and Ingleby Barwick. We have 1398 students on roll including 260 in the sixth form.

Our intake is drawn mainly from the five local primary schools, three of which form part of the 1590 Trust. Our excellent outcomes and strong reputation for meeting the needs of all students means that we are a popular choice with many families beyond our admission zone. On entry, our students have KS2 results above local and national averages.

Conyers School is characterised by excellent relationships between students, staff and parents. We are proud of our reputation as a high-achieving and caring learning environment, committed to placing the needs of all students at the heart of what we do. The curriculum at Conyers is rich and vibrant and provides the framework that enables students to achieve the potential and develops the skills that prepare them for a successful adult life.

Students thrive and make strong progress at Conyers. Attainment is high placing us among the top rank of state schools and we succeed in encouraging students to achieve in many ways apart from the purely academic. We are very proud of our programme of extra-curricular activities. The range of experiences offered means there is something for everyone; sport, music, Duke of Edinburgh, the school show, student leadership, debating clubs, trips and visits, the list is endless. Within these fields, levels of participation are high, standards of excellence are achieved and all of this is made possible by the staff who give willingly of their time and the students who demonstrate real enthusiasm.

Our students are proud to attend Conyers and this is shown by their excellent conduct, manners and punctuality. Expectations are high across the school and this ensures an extremely positive climate for learning. At Conyers we provide outstanding care, support and guidance for all our students and our school is made up of smaller “families” – year teams and tutor groups. Excellent outcomes for students are achieved because the relationships throughout the school are based upon mutual respect and provide encouragement and challenge. This creates an environment in which students thrive because they feel safe and happy.

Our school is a wonderful place to work, characterised by excellent relationships between students, staff and parents. Many of our staff team live in the admission zone; others travel from elsewhere in the Tees Valley, Darlington, Durham or the beautiful villages of the North Yorkshire Moors and Dales. The cities of York and Newcastle are within easy reach.

The school is very well equipped with teaching organised into specialist subject areas. All teachers, teaching assistants and year managers are provided with iPads to enhance the learning experience for students and to ensure systems and processes run smoothly. The ‘iPad for Learning’ scheme means that all students have a tablet enabling them to access the widest range of resources and ensuring teaching and learning is vibrant, purposeful and engaging. This provision enabled us to deliver a virtual school learning experience during the Covid-19 pandemic that achieved national recognition.

As a school, we believe in the development of our employees, as they are our most valuable resource. We aim to recruit, train and retain the very best teachers to provide the very best experience for every student. We therefore have a comprehensive CPD programme and numerous opportunities for professional development with a particular emphasis on the development of leadership skills. We are also very fortunate to have two training rooms and SWIVL video technology to enable our teachers to develop their craft.
