About this Role
We are seeking to appoint either a causal or part time (one/two days a week) Cover Supervisor to join our friendly and supportive Cover Team.
Your role will involve the supervision of classes during periods of teaching staff absence to ensure that set work is completed to a high standard and behaviour is well managed in line with the school's Behaviour for Learning policy.
Duties will include:
- Discussing cover work with teachers ahead of planned absences
- Liaison with appropriate staff (subject leaders, teachers and support staff) regarding work set to ensure that the requirements are fully understood
- Providing students with clear information and instructions relating to the work they are to complete
- Supervising work that has been set by a teacher
- Managing the behaviour of students whilst they are undertaking set work to ensure student safety and create an environment conducive to learning
- Responding to any questions from students about processes and procedures
- Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school’s policies and procedures
- Understanding and adhering to the school’s Behaviour for Learning policy, with particular regard to celebrating success
- Collecting completed work after the lesson and passing it to the appropriate teacher
- Offering SEN support in the event of no teacher cover being required
- Providing administrative support as required, including the inputting of known future cover requirements
- Undertaking a weekly morning break and/or lunch duty, supervising students in and around the school premises
The successful applicant will ideally:
- have previous experience in a similar role
- be confident and supportive
- possess excellent interpersonal skills
- be able to demonstrate empathy with young people
On-the-job training will be provided, as required, under the direction of our teaching staff and Lead Cover Supervisor.

Katherine Warington School is a new comprehensive, co‐educational and non‐denominational academic secondary school (opened September 19) with 750 students currently (180 in each of years 7, 8, 9 and 10 – these year groups are already oversubscribed). The school will add a
further 180 students in each subsequent year and then open a 250 strong Sixth Form. By 2025 we will have grown to our capacity of 1,150 students. The school was established through the partnership of the Harpenden Secondary Schools Trust, which includes the three outstanding
schools in Harpenden: Roundwood Park, St George’s and Sir John Lawes and additional partners: the University of Hertfordshire and Rothamsted Research Centre (a world leading non‐profit agricultural science research centre).
