The basis of this role is a member of staff who will cover the teaching of a class when the normal classroom teacher is unavailable.
Whilst covering a lesson you will be responsible for the students learning, safety and behaviour and must ensure that the lessons work is completed and students make the progress required. You will be required to cover a multitude of different subjects and teach children aged 11 – 16. You may at points be given a small number of timetabled lessons for which you would be given all materials and extra support from subject specialists. When there is no cover needs you may also be used to support in classes or support other functions in the school such as break and lunch time duties, exam invigilation and more.
Essential experience
Experience in a school environment.
Good understanding of the secondary school curriculum.
A good foundation knowledge of GCSE level English, Maths and Science.
Experience of safeguarding children. Desirable experience
Experience as a cover supervisor/supply teacher.
Experience of working in a secondary school environment in a disadvantaged area.
