Cover Supervisor job summary

Longsands Academy has an exciting opportunity for a Cover Supervisor to join their team!

Cover Supervisors play an important role in our Academy, maintaining continuity of education for students in the absence of their regular teacher, ensuring that the work set is understood and completed and promoting high standards of conduct and learning. We provide training and induction, including behaviour management skills.

There will be opportunities to observe good practice of both classroom teachers and other cover supervisors in order to develop good practitioner skills. The post is an ideal stepping stone for anyone seeking a career in education and a number of our former cover supervisors have gone on to complete teacher training successfully. Although prior experience is not essential, you should have a commitment to working with young people.

As our Cover Supervisor, you will be:

Supervising any class (including registration) when the teacher is unavailable, using material planned by a teacher to engage students in learning;
Where possible, liaising in advance with the classroom teacher whose absence is being supervised, to ensure instructions are clarified;
Informing the classroom teacher of individual student progress, identifying students who work well and those who underachieve;
Contributing to reports on student progress;

We are looking for individuals who have:

Good general education – minimum A Level or equivalent and including GCSE in Mathematics and English at Grade C or above
Experience of working with young people in a busy environment
Experience of working in a primary or secondary school

Commitment to safeguarding

Astrea Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and we expect all staff to share this commitment.
