Cover Supervisor job summary

Do you want a job where you make a difference to the lives of children and young people?

Do you want to be inspired on a daily basis by your work?

Are you interested in becoming a teacher as part of your career plan?

Do you have the ability to engage, motivate and promote the learning of pupils?

Are you ready to join a school and Trust keen to develop its staff?

It is a very exciting time to join Parkside School which, last year, joined Wellspring Academy Trust that was recently awarded the title of Multi Academy Trust of the year. We have a new Principal, new uniform, new pastoral coaching system and renewed school curriculum and as such, we are at the start of an exciting journey. We are looking for like-minded, motivated staff to join us on this journey. Wellspring Academy Trust is known for its inclusive practice and these values are matched by Parkside School. ‘We make a difference’ If you have the same philosophy, this may be the job for you.

Details of Wellspring Academy Trust can be found at: https://wellspringacademytrust.co.uk/

As a Cover Supervisor you will be covering teachers who are on short term absence for a variety of reasons. You will be provided with work to engage students in that lesson but there will also be the opportunity to add your own level of personalisation to the lesson. Sometimes, you may have a few days’ notice of the absence and at times it will be on the day. You will need to have the versatility to adapt quickly. You will be part of a small team of cover supervisors in school and you will be given training and support in order that you are successful in this role. Relationships with students are crucial and we are looking for staff whose values and personality engage our students.

Each Cover Supervisor is attached to a faculty so that they have a sense of belonging and will be used for cover in that faculty and one other before being used elsewhere. This model has proved to be one that is very supportive to Cover Supervisors. The departments to which you would be attached would be matched with the successful candidates skill set. A previous postholder used this role as preparation to enter the teaching profession in later years so this post may be an ideal opportunity for someone interested in becoming a teacher to gain supported classroom experience before moving on to teacher training.

At Parkside and Wellspring Academy Trust, we are keen to provide development opportunities which allow staff, at all levels, to develop themselves. Indeed, in some of our schools, staff who started at Cover Supervisors are now teachers or even have other more senior posts in schools. There are many routes into teaching and we would be happy to support the right person when they are ready.

Our vision for Parkside School is that Parkside School should visibly and substantively impact on the community it is embedded within. This impact should be important, meaningful and considerable. This means young people from Parkside should develop into well-rounded young people who know how to keep themselves safe. We want students to have a personal and specific hope for the future which they can articulate, believe in and share with others; students who can empathise, critique, protect, love, inspire, make, design, explore and understand; students who are willing to try things they have never done before, do things they don’t want to do and be willing to reinvent themselves to become the best that they can be.

If you would like any information about this post, please contact the Principal’s PA in the first instance. Kath Jackson at kathryn.jackson@parksideschool.net

Commitment to safeguarding

Wellspring Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils. All posts are offered subject to enhanced DBS checks. As this role involves working with children in regulated activity, please note that it is an offence to apply for the role if barred from engaging in regulated activity with children.

References will be requested and an online search carried out for shortlisted candidates, prior to interview. Further pre-employment checks, including prohibition from teaching, childcare disqualification and section 128 checks, if relevant for the role, will be completed for the successful candidate upon acceptance of the post.

Parkside School and locality

We want all of our schools to make a positive contribution to the community that they are embedded within. This impact should be meaningful, considerable and lasting.

We want the young people of Parkside school to have every available opportunity to develop into well-rounded citizens who are equipped to make a positive contribution and who know how to keep themselves safe. We want students to have passionate hopes for their future; hopes that they can articulate, believe in and make real. We want to develop a nurturing environment that develops students who can empathise, critique, protect, love, inspire, make, design, explore and understand; students who are willing to try things they have never tried before, do things they have never done before and who are willing to risk reimagining themselves as the very best version of what they can become.

Located in the picturesque village of Cullingworth, Parkside School is surrounded by rolling hills and dramatic countryside.

The village, three miles south of Keighley and seven miles west of central Bradford, is not only popular with commuters but also with tourists, walkers and cyclists who revel in some of the country’s most glorious scenery.

The locality is steeped in history; the Brontë Parsonage Museum and its famous literary collections lie less than five miles east.

Also on the doorstep is the Saltaire World Heritage Site; a Victorian model village that is home to Salts Mill, which itself boasts striking architecture, eateries and shopping.
