What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking to appoint a Full Time Cover Supervisor to work as part of our team of dedicated and committed support staff. This appointment is temporary in the first instance until 31 August 2023 to meet the current needs of the school and will be reviewed.
Seven Hills School is a Secondary Special School for young people with a range of complex needs including severe learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder, physical disabilities and communication difficulties. We cater for pupils from 11 to 19 years of age. The school is maintained by Sheffield Local Authority (LA). Purpose of the Job: Whilst the main focus of this role will be the provision of cover for teachers, the jobholder will also be required to work across the school to support in the development and delivery of learning for pupils and by helping with administrative tasks. The successful applicant will undertake a variety of roles in school including:
- To provide support for learning in line with all aspects of a Cover Supervisor
- Plan and deliver lessons to both whole classes and small groups
- Work within an agreed framework of supervision to complement the professional work of Teachers, including planning, preparation and delivery of lessons
- Deploy and inform the work of other teaching assistants
- Effective liaison with parents/carers and other professionals
- Contribute significantly to annual reviews, student assessment and reporting student progress

You will be confident in supporting and leading classroom learning and be resilient to respond to the day to day needs of the school, you should also have the ability and motivation to organise your own workload and priorities. Working across a range of ages and abilities you should have experience of managing students with challenging behaviour with a range of complex needs including severe learning difficulties, physical disabilities and communication difficulties.
Governors are looking for an enthusiastic and committed person who is able to meet the Higher Level Teaching Assistant standards or has the equivalent qualifications or experience. You must demonstrate excellent numeracy / literacy skills equivalent to NVQ level 2 in English and Maths, had training in relevant learning strategies e.g. Read, Write, Inc., Big Maths, possess expertise in ICT and some competence around augmented communication strategies eg. Makaton, Rebus, PECS. The successful candidate will have the ability to deal professionally with all of the school’s stakeholders, including pupils, visitors, school governors and parents.
All Teaching Assistants are required to be proficient in Safe Moving and Handling techniques and Team Teach, and training will be provided as necessary.

Seven Hills School is a co-educational secondary special school co-located with a Catholic High School near the centre of the city. We cater for pupils from 11 to 19 years of age. The school is maintained by Sheffield Local Authority (LA). All pupils have learning difficulties and many have other associated difficulties relating to communication, behaviour, sensory, physical and/or medical disabilities. In common with many other special schools, pupils admitted have increasingly complex needs. A high proportion of pupils are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Approximately 25% of pupils are from an ethnic minority background. The mission and purpose of Seven Hills School is to provide high quality inclusive education for young people aged 11 -19 with learning difficulties, physical disabilities and complex and multiple learning needs, in a safe and stimulating environment.
