Why Merit?

Unlike most alternative provision, we mirror a mainstream curriculum with an academic focus and pupils studying for 7 GCSE in recognised EBacc subjects. Merit pupils go on to study at all levels, with many going on to University.

We are proud of our GCSE results which align with some of the best in the city. In the last year exams were taken, 50% of pupils gained a grade 4 or above in Maths.

Rated ‘good’ by Ofsted in 2019 under the new framework, the inspection team recognised:

“The pupils at Merit Pupil Referral Unit are very positive about the school, and they are right to be”

“Pupils and staff enjoy positive relationships with each other. Pupils encourage one another. They recognise that everyone is different and that all face challenges in life”

We strongly encourage prospective candidates to visit the school, to meet us and talk to anyone who works here to understand why Merit will be a transformative move for your career, please contact Mrs Whiteley by email: swhiteley4@meritpru-stoke.org.uk.
