The physical education department is a well-established and high achieving department, consistently achieving excellence in the KS4 qualifications that come under the PE umbrella. We have excellent attendance to our extra-curricular clubs, which covers a wide range of activities. Our participation in local, regional and national competitions has led to an excellent reputation due to our level of success.
GCSE PE is a popular option choice with 21% of our students achieving a Grade 9 in 2022, 52% of our students achieving a Grade 7+ and 100% of our students achieving 3+.
Sports Studies is also a popular choice for those students that opt for a more vocational route, with 21.7% of students achieving wither a Distinction or Distinction* and a Pass rate for the level 2 qualification being 84.5%.
The Health and Social Care qualification is also part of the PE curriculum and we have a specialist member of the team that delivers the majority of this qualification. Again, results are strong here with 19.6% of students achieving wither a Distinction or Distinction* and 80.4% achieving a Level 2 Pass.
Our final qualification is BTEC Dance and this is an area that we wish to develop further with regards to uptake and our KS3 offer. The results are still strong though, with 56.3% of students receiving Distinction or Distinction* and 100% of students achieving a Level 2 Pass.
The biggest positive about the PE Department (not including the superb staff), is the brand new and purpose built facilities. We have:
• Sportshall (4 courts).
• Activity Studio.
• Fitness Suite.
• Muga (x2), as well as additional yard space.
• Astro Turf.
• Grass.
• Athletics Areas (including a long jump pit).
