Deputy Financial Controller

Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year (Full time - requests for flexibility in working arrangements/patterns would be considered)

Working Hours: 8:00am-16:00pm Monday to Thursday, 8:00am-15:30pm Friday

Salary: £46,464 - £49,498, (Scale P04B) pro rata for part time contract.

Location: Marleigh Primary Academy, Hybrid working with minimum 3 days in office per week.

About the role:

The Deputy Financial Controller will act as lead on key aspects of financial operation, deputising for the Financial Controller and providing support to their hub and schools across the Trust as appropriate. The areas of lead responsibility will be drawn from those identified in the key headings below but will include:

Management accounting

Budget process, Integrated Curriculum Financial Planning and Business Planning

Payroll and pension reporting (payroll processing is outsourced)

Coordination of the year end process and annual audit

Completion of revenue returns to the Education and Skills Funding Agency

VAT compliance

Treasury management

Requirements of the role:


Accounting qualification (ACCA, ICAEW, or CIPFA)

Experience in a similar role and management of a small finance team

Highly IT literate, including advanced skills in Excel

Sound knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping

Ability to establish productive working relationships and to lead and motivate others

Well organised with the ability to prioritise work effectively, balancing the need for detail with strategic direction

Prior experience in a school finance role is desirable
