What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Deputy Head of Mathematics, to join our dedicated and innovative team at The Arnewood School. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of our thriving Mathematics department and make a significant impact on students' outcomes and understanding of mathematics. You will play a crucial role in supporting the Head of Department in enhancing the teaching and learning experience. You will work closely with staff and students, leading by example and helping to create a culture of excellence and high achievement in mathematics, from KS3 through to KS5.
In our department, teachers put a large emphasis on success through high-quality explanations, guided practice, independent practice and regular feedback. We have a detailed curriculum plan and students work to achieve a strong understanding of Mathematical concepts before moving on.
For the successful candidate this is a unique opportunity to join a superb team and shape the department's future success. The Mathematics department has embarked on a journey to improve student outcomes through a focus on a Mastery approach, whilst reducing workload at every opportunity. We do not expect books to be marked, but instead focus on timely and effective feedback. We want everyone to have the time and space to improve their skills, whether that is students or staff, and as a department, we will continue to invest in this.
The successful candidate will have a strong and secure knowledge of the GCSE curriculum, in addition they will have a strong understanding of the KS5 curriculum content. They will have excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others. They will be able to maintain and build on a culture of success where all feel valued and proud of their achievements. They will be ably supported by motivated members of the Maths Team so that we can deliver excellent outcomes for all our students whatever their starting point.
The successful candidate will demonstrate: -
- A passion for mathematics and teaching and have excellent subject knowledge and pedagogical understanding
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- They are an excellent classroom practitioner, who is experienced in teaching maths at key Stages 3, 4 and 5
- The ability to motivate, challenge, support and inspire students to achieve the best possible outcomes
- Outstanding success at achieving consistently good results in mathematics, at least, at key stage 3 and key stage 4
- The ability to create and facilitate highly challenging and engaging lessons
- They are optimistic, positive, cheerful and develop others to flourish.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with educational best practices.
