Deputy Head of Philosophy and Ethics job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher who wants to join an excellent department. This post is suitable for someone who would like to widen their experience, someone who will embrace the opportunities of working in a Leading Edge school. This post offers real opportunities for professional and career development.
This is a strong Philosophy and Ethics Department which welcomes a variety of approaches to the subject. An ability to teach (or experience with) A Level is desirable but not essential. The successful candidate must be willing to develop teaching skills in this area.
Philosophy and Ethics is taught in three main rooms and currently has three full time members of staff. Students have a positive approach to the subject, and demonstrate high levels of engagement throughout all key stages.
Currently Year 7 and Year 8 students are taught in mixed ability groups. They follow schemes of learning devised to allow learners to gain knowledge and understanding of a range of religious and non-religious worldviews and philosophical concepts. We encourage our learners and be able to confidently draw upon the ideas of various thinkers in order to support their own judgements.
At KS4, the subject is compulsory and students follow the EDUQAS GCSE specification, studying Sikhism as the second religion. A Level students follow a linear programme following the OCR Religious Studies specification. Outcomes for both courses are above the national average.
Commitment to safeguarding
Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.
Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.
Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):
childcare disqualification
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
medical
online and social media
prohibition from teaching
right to work
satisfactory references
suitability to work with children
You must tell us about any unspent conviction, cautions, reprimands or warnings under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
