What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a dedicated Deputy Head & SENCO with:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree.
  • SENDCo qualification (or in progress).
  • NPQH (desirable).
  • Minimum of 3 years leadership experience in a school.
  • At least 4 years teaching experience.
  • Experience in school self-evaluation, development planning, and staff management.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Data analysis skills for setting targets and identifying school weaknesses.
  • Knowledge of high-quality teaching and ability to support staff improvement.
  • Experience in financial management and budgeting.
  • Strong commitment to student outcomes and school ethos.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize effectively, and solve problems.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, and equality.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Willingness to pursue ongoing professional development.

Your Role in Building Brighter Futures

As a Deputy Head & SENCO at Wansdyke Primary School, you will play a key role in contributing to the delivery of Futura’s mission statement of “Building the brightest future for all, enabling every individual to flourish”. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about living our values and making a positive impact on all the young people in our Trust.

As Deputy Head & SENCO you will be responsible for:

  • Formulate and monitor school aims, policies, and objectives.
  • Lead on SEND, Pupil Premium, Assessment, Staff induction & mentoring, and Designated Teacher for CLA.
  • Act as Headteacher in their absence.
  • Develop and manage SEND policy and provision.
  • Coordinate day-to-day support for pupils with SEND or disabilities.
  • Oversee behaviour management and support teachers.
  • Ensure statutory compliance and work with external agencies.
  • Foster a positive school culture with high standards of behaviour and staff professionalism.
  • Ensure high-quality teaching across all subjects and phases.
  • Monitor and improve school practices, resources, and policies.
  • Lead CPD and provide staff development opportunities.
  • Ensure effective use of data to inform teaching and school improvement.
  • Act as Deputy Safeguarding Lead.
  • Ensure compliance with child protection and safeguarding regulations.
