Deputy Headteacher job summary
Required for the Summer Term (start date 1st May, 2020 or 1st September, 2020)
Key areas of responsibility
1. Strategic planning and implementation of the school vision
• Support the Headteacher in developing and communicating a clear strategic vision of how to develop the school successfully
• Support the Christian ethos of the school and its values
• Motivate and empower others to carry this vision forward
• Model the values and vision of the school
• Support the Headteacher in successfully implementing change
• Work in harmony with the Headteacher, Governors, local schools and other partners as appropriate
• Deputise for the Headteacher in her absence, taking responsibility for the strategic and operational management of the school as directed
2. Learning, teaching, provision and outcomes
• Lead by example on outstanding learning and teaching
• Work with others to promote the highest student attainment and progress
• Work with others to develop effective approaches to meeting the needs of all students through curricular and other provisions
• Maintain a sense of harmony, through the effective management of student behaviour
• Involve students in the decision-making processes in the school and treat students as partners in the learning process
• Support effective management of pastoral care, student welfare and anti-bullying procedures
• Work with others to ensure impactful assessment, recording and reporting systems of student progress
3. Leading and managing staff
• Lead and motivate others and generate effective working relationships at all levels
• Maximise the contribution of staff to improve the quality of education provided and standards achieved
• Contribute to the effective recruitment, deployment, training and performance of staff
• Create and maintain good working relationships among all members of the school community
• Sustain own motivation and work-life balance and that of other staff
4. Efficient and effective use of resources
• Work with others to deploy staff effectively in order to improve the quality of education provided
• Work with others to monitor and evaluate the curriculum and other provisions for both quality and value for money
• Support the Headteacher and Bursar in managing and organising accommodation efficiently and effectively to ensure that it meets the needs of the curriculum, as well as Health and Safety requirements
• Support the Headteacher in providing resources for the school which promote the highest aspirations, practices and outcomes
5. Accountability and wider working
• Provide information, objective advice and support to the Governing Body to enable it to meet its responsibilities for securing effective teaching, learning and improved standards of achievement
• Contribute to the school performance management processes, self-evaluation, inspection preparation and management
• Support the Headteacher in maintaining and developing a school in which staff recognise that they are accountable for its success
• Present a coherent and accurate account of the school’s performance in a form appropriate to a range of audiences
• Ensure that a good information flow is maintained within the school and with parents, students and other stakeholders
• Maintain and develop excellent relations between the school and the local community
• Work closely with other schools, locally, nationally and internationally
• Work closely with the Westminster Local Authority, the United Westminster and Grey Coat Foundation, the LDBS and other institutions and agencies to meet the needs of the school and its students

The Deputy Headteacher will join the SLT, Headteacher and Governors in their continued quest for excellence in all areas of school life.
Experience
• Evidence of successful leadership and management at a senior leadership level, leading to outstanding outcomes (essential)
• Evidence of successful use of monitoring and evaluation strategies to raise the standards of the quality of teaching and learning, student outcomes, quality of provision and efficiency (essential)
• Experience of identifying and developing high quality staff and of effective staff performance management (essential)
• Experience of targeted school development planning to raise standards and improve outcomes (essential)
• Experience of developing and leading new initiatives using the latest technologies to support learning (essential)
• Successful management, as part of a senior leadership team, of school self-evaluation and/or the OfSTED process (essential)
• Experience of developing, leading or supporting pastoral initiatives that have significantly improved student discipline, behaviour and attitudes (essential)
• Evidence of effective innovation in secondary education (essential)
• Evidence of successful teaching and outstanding outcomes in more than one school (essential)
• Evidence of innovative approaches to timetabling and effective use of pupil performance data to raise student outcomes (desirable)
