Ebor Academy Filey
Post: Deputy Headteacher (Achievement and Standards)
Number on Roll: 430
Commencing: January 2022 start ideally
Salary: L14 – L18 (Access if needed to a relocation package of up to £8,000 available)

If you are a colleague who is ambitious, inspirational and committed to excellence then this appointment will present you with a unique opportunity.

Here at Ebor Academy Filey (11-16) we are continuing on our transformational journey and we would love to hear from you if you are seeking your first Deputy Headship, or your next leadership role!

Despite recent challenges, our school has many strengths, and you would be joining a school with talented colleagues and students, and a staff body that show Kindness, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork in their work. The communities we serve around the Filey and wider Coastal area deserve and need our school to play a leading role in terms of teaching, learning, progress and outcomes.

Ofsted last visited us in May 2018 where we were graded ‘Requires Improvement’ and moved us out of the ‘Inadequate’ category. Since then through the support of our Trust and working with our fellow coastal schools we have continued to improve across all areas – but we know we have more to do to ensure our school is a beacon of excellence. Over the last three years our school has been fully staffed by subject expects and we have welcomed a number of experienced colleagues who have relocated to take up their new posts.

Through support brokered by our Trust for 2021/2022 we are working closely under an NLE agreement with Coast and Vale Learning Trust – a growing local trust of 2 Secondary schools (Scalby School and Lady Lumley’ School) and 2 primary schools (Newby & Scalby Primary and Friarage Primary). This will allow us to learn and collaborate with other coastal schools as our area is designated a DFE Opportunity Area.

Our Opportunity
We are looking to appoint either an aspiring leader or existing senior leader to join us as our sole Deputy Headteacher to lead improvements in Curriculum and Assessment and improvement in Achievement and Standards ideally from January 2021.

You will already be an excellent teacher within your specialism, and have some leadership experience and be able to show impact around achievement and standards within your current school. With tailored support from our Headteacher, Ebor Academy Trust and through our NLE arrangement we will further develop you and give you the skills, encouragement and experience within the profession to excel as a Deputy Headteacher – and beyond.

You will need resilience, emotional intelligence as well as the ability to work with and take colleagues with you. You will lead on Assessment, Achievement and Standards, and help support our Headteacher with all elements of strategic leadership. Coaching and mentoring will be in your DNA as a colleague as you help make Ebor Academy Filey a beacon of excellence across North Yorkshire.

We can offer you:

• Significant levels of support from both Ebor Academy Trust, Coast and Vale Learning Trust and a staff team who are experienced, committed and passionate about our school.
• Opportunities and training (we will also learn from you!)to ensure teaching and learning and our school improvement continues to be rapid and sustainable.
• Relocation assistance and competitive remuneration package
• A commitment from the Trust Board to keep the pay range under review to ensure high performance can be fully rewarded.

Join our school as a Leader and make a real difference to our students, staff and your career in an area that offers so much! To arrange an informal call with Michael McCluskie (NLE – Coast and Vale Learning Trust) or a school visit to meet Michael and our Headteacher (Terry Cartmail) please contact James on the details below.

Welcome to our school.

At our school we know that it is the people that matter the most. We know that what we need to create is a climate and a culture that enables everyone to feel happy and safe in an exciting place to learn.

Our school has four new core values: Kindness, Respect, Integrity and Teamwork. Every member of our school is expected to try their hardest to live out these values every minute of every day.

We believe passionately in our students, we know that with the right support here, and at home, they can achieve great things. They have to believe in themselves and strive for success. This includes accepting the need for the highest standards of attendance, behaviour and always being being ready to learn. We insist that every member of our school community works as hard as he or she can, without exception.

Our aim here is to provide all our learners with an exciting, coherent and inspirational curriculum taught by truly talented, professional and hardworking staff. We wish to create a culture that is inclusive, and where the individual and diverse talents of all our students are nurtured and celebrated.

We want to encourage every member of our school community to develop a love of learning. Our aim will always be to do all we can to enable everyone to reach the highest standards of which they are capable. We are committed to ensuring our students are happy, safe and have clear direction and support.

Self-belief, confidence and being proud of our own achievements are the keys to success. The best academic outcomes always occur where a true partnership has been established between home, school and the young person – all of us working together to strive for the best possible education.

I look forward to working with you.
