What the school offers its staff

Q3 Academy Langley opened its doors in September 2016, becoming the first brand-new secondary education provider in Sandwell in a decade. We are looking to add to our fantastic team of dedicated, hard-working colleagues, who contribute to a wonderful culture of work. Now in 2024 we are one of the leading schools both locally, regionally and nationally. Every week we welcome colleagues from the length-and-breadth of the country to see how we are changing the narrative for education here in Sandwell and being a wider system leader.

Our curriculum model is focused primarily on the EBacc subjects, forming our Core. Additionally, we have a project-based, cross-curricular provision (Horizon, Innov8 and Cloud 9) that develops student learning both academically and holistically. Because of this innovative model, there is a minimal strain in terms of lesson planning, leaving time to hone learning and the art of teaching.

In May 2019, we received glowing feedback from our first Ofsted inspection. As well as highlighting our outstanding behaviour, pastoral and leadership systems, the lead inspector expressed that Q3 Academy Langley was ‘not a normal school.’ Our outward-facing approach has led us to be at the forefront of educational innovation – our focus on being ‘warm but strict’, and putting knowledge at the heart of our curriculum has led Schools Week to dub us ‘the Michaela of the Midlands’.

Additionally, our attendance and persistent absence figures have been amongst the very best in the entire country – this is particularly impressive when considering the socio-economic context of the Academy (IDACI ‘Deprived’) and the broad cultural mix of our cohort. The work of We are in Beta highlighted that for the last two years we are in the top 100 schools in the country for disadvantage progress outcomes.

At Q3 Academy Langley, we have the absolute highest expectations of behaviour and politeness from our students, and have several procedures that support and reinforce these ideals. We expect the successful candidate to comply with such procedures, understanding that when an Academy rows together, students can learn in a safe and consistent environment. In July 2018, we were delighted to have been one of the first schools nationally to have been awarded the prestigious Schools of Character award, reflecting our commitment to developing young people beyond the classroom. This is only one of a raft of external accreditation that we have received demonstrating an inclusive learning environment for staff and students alike.

The Mercian Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment all offers of employment are subject to an online check, Enhanced DBS check and where applicable, a prohibition from teaching check will be completed for all applicants.

Q3 Academy Langley opened its doors in September 2016, becoming the first brand new secondary education provider in Sandwell in a decade. Our Academy ethos stems from the Latin ‘Quarere’, meaning ‘to seek’. We stand for three high ideals – to seek that which is good, that which is right, and that which is true. If you share our belief that these ideals are a tremendous foundation on which to build young people’s educational experience, with the hope that our students will feel delighted coming to the Academy, then you share our vision.
