What skills and experience we're looking for

As Deputy Headteacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our school, working closely with the Headteacher and other Senior Leaders (including SEND) to deliver exceptional outcomes for our pupils. This role is both challenging and highly rewarding, offering the opportunity to:

  • Exemplify and actively support the school’s values, ethos, and strategic priorities.
  • Lead and inspire staff and pupils to consistently strive for excellence.
  • Exemplify a high level of effective practice through a teaching commitment.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and innovation.
  • Drive improvements in teaching and learning.
  • Manage the school’s timetables, ensuring it supports effective learning and teaching while maximizing staff, resource and operational efficiency.
  • Take responsibility for the leadership and development of English across the school, driving high standards and ensuring the subject’s curriculum is engaging, progressive, and effective.
  • Support and mentor staff to deliver high-quality English teaching and implement best practices across the curriculum.
  • Lead staff appraisals.
  • Ensure effective practice in supporting EAL learners.
  • Function as the school’s DPO.
  • Manage and support any ECT staff where required.
  • Oversee and coordinate the smooth transition of pupils from infant to junior school, ensuring continuity in learning, pastoral care, and parent engagement during this critical stage of development.

About You

We are looking for an outstanding leader who:

  • Embodies and champions the school’s core values in all aspects of their work.
  • Has proven experience in middle or senior leadership within a school setting.
  • Is passionate about teaching and learning and has a track record of driving improvement.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Is committed to promoting a nurturing, inclusive, and positive environment for all children.
  • Has excellent organisational skills, including the ability to plan and manage a number of complex timetables.
  • Possesses a strong logistical understanding of the operational needs of a school, with the ability to oversee daily functions such as resource allocation, scheduling, and staff coordination effectively.
  • Is an expert in English teaching with a deep understanding of the Key Stage 2 English curriculum.
  • Has experience leading a subject area and driving improvement in English outcomes.
  • Understands the importance of transition from Y2 to Y3.
  • Holds qualified teacher status (QTS).
