Deputy Headteacher job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate, and experienced Deputy Headteacher to join our leadership team. This role is vital in supporting the Headteacher in the overall management and strategic development of the school, as well as ensuring the effective delivery of high-quality education and pastoral care for students with SEMH needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Headteacher in the strategic leadership and management of the school.
  • Take responsibility for day-to-day operational leadership and ensuring the welfare and safeguarding of all students.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of SEMH-focused initiatives and strategies.
  • Oversee and enhance teaching, learning, and behaviour management across the school.
  • Work closely with staff, families, and external agencies to support student well-being and progress.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and review of the school’s curriculum and policies.
  • Lead and inspire staff through effective coaching and professional development.

In return, you will be joining our team of tenacious, optimistic and talented support staff, who have the support of an experienced leadership team Hamilton School is an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Special School in Reading educating up to 64 students with Education, Health Care Plans (EHCP). Our mission is to recognise each and every one of our students as individuals, and to nurture their potential, developing the whole child through a therapeutic approach. This means that you would have to be a resilient character who is able to remain positive when dealing with challenging behaviour. The school is proud to have recently opened its doors to a state-of-the-art building with wonderful new facilities for both pupils and staff as well as achieving a 'GOOD' Ofsted rating in May 2024.

In January 2020 Hamilton School joined the Maiden Erlegh Trust family of schools, whose motto is “Aim High, Be Inclusive, Work Together”.
