Start Date: Easter 2022 or September 2022

Bridgwater and Taunton College Trust and the Governors of Stanchester Academy wish to appoint a dynamic and talented Deputy Headteacher with proven leadership and management skills to join a highly effective leadership team.

This is an incredibly exciting time for Stanchester Academy having received an Ofsted rating of Good (October 2019) and having joined a highly successful Multi Academy Trust (December 1st 2019).  The Academy is also in a period of growth. It has increased its published admission number from 120 to 180 over the last three years to account for the preferences of families within the community.  The Academy draws from nine rurally located feeder primary schools all of whom work closely with the Academy to provide exceptional transition experiences for young people.

The Deputy Headteacher position is available due to the previous deputy moving into the post of Headteacher within the school.  This is a pivotal time for the school and senior team who are deeply committed to school improvement. Stanchester is driven by the core value of every child achieves and the overarching vision to nurture a culture with:

Ambitious learners who are knowledgeable and literate.

Candidates must already hold a Senior Management post of Assistant or Deputy Headteacher with the capacity to drive continued, rapid school improvement, lead staff and have clear impact on student outcomes.  The post will carry specific responsibilities in a variety of areas that will benefit the team and the school; these are outlined in the job description and will be discussed with candidates during the interview process. This post will provide an ideal opportunity for preparation for Headship.

What we offer:

A Trust wide leadership competencies framework
A professional leadership development coach
A Trust wide staff wellbeing policy
Personalised professional development supported by an exceptional team within the Academy and driven through The Continual Professional Growth Policy which replaces appraisal and pay progression
A beautiful rural location. Stanchester Academy is set in the South Somerset countryside within a mile of the A303, and benefits from exceptionally good rail links to major cities in the UK including London, Bristol, Bath & Exeter

Welcome

We aspire to be amongst the best, not just out of a healthy competitive spirit, but because it is our duty to foster and pursue this commitment for our learners and learning community.

We strive to be a school known for a productive and welcoming atmosphere, to value achievement but also strongly promote personal development. School should be a preparation for later life, and learning self-respect, consideration for others, and the consequences of our own actions, helps develop a sense of duty, citizenship and belonging.

Success will always depend on good communication between school and home, and we never under-estimate the crucial role of parents and guardians.

We will do our utmost to flag issues early, and I would ask you to do the same by contacting us and working with us to find solutions.

We all know the importance of a safe, happy environment for your child to learn and thrive in their journey to adulthood. We challenge all of our students to aim high, and meet our own high expectations.

At Stanchester we believe:

In respect and support for every individual, regardless of background or ability

There are “no excuses” for poor behaviour or attitude

We all take responsibility for our own actions

Bullying is not acceptable

Your child and every child has the right to learn

Every student should participate, aim high and give of his or her best

In life-long learning: a state of mind to help young people thrive in an ever-changing world

If this all sounds like what you want for your child, you have made the right choice.

To find out more, contact the school to talk about your child joining us.
