Deputy Headteacher (Maternity Cover or Secondment) job summary
We are advertising for a maternity leave cover for our current Deputy Headteacher. However, this is also an exciting opportunity for a leadership secondment for an existing Deputy in a smaller school or aspiring Assistant Headteacher. We need to maintain our leadership capacity across the school in the Deputy’s absence, so this may also be suitable for external consultants, LA school improvement inspectors, ex senior leaders, etc.
The last maternity cover we had 2 years ago went onto secure a fulltime position in a Havering school as Deputy Headteacher so this could be the stepping stone needed to secure a more permanent position if that is what you are looking for.
Ideally, we need someone 5 days a week; however, we are willing to be flexible for the right candidate. The role involves teaching responsibilities in Year 6 taking intervention groups, overseeing the literacy subject leaders and the online remote learning that has become most prevalent in the last year. They will also lead assessment across the school.
Commitment to safeguarding
Our organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff, volunteers and trustees to share this commitment.
Our recruitment process follows the keeping children safe in education guidance.
Offers of employment may be subject to the following checks (where relevant):

We are a good school, recognised by Ofsted in January 2018, that is growing in strength, numbers and reputation and we are looking for a passionate person to join us on this journey and help to drive the school forward. At the heart of everything we do is the school community and the people who work together to make this: children, staff, parents and governors. Every decision that we make revolves around our children as we are continuously striving to provide a world-class education, as our pupils deserve nothing less. We believe that, by providing a school in which everyone feels secure, knowing that they matter and are cared for, we create an atmosphere where learning is encouraged and developed, ensuring our children are always striving to get better.
