Deputy Headteacher job summary

The Deputy Headteacher will work closely with the Headteacher, the second Deputy Headteacher and rest of the Senior Leadership Team to provide professional leadership and management. The Deputy Headteacher’s main responsibility is for the quality of education in a particular key stage. This is an all-encompassing brief, the intention of which is to bring together the academic and pastoral strands of the school’s operational and strategic management. The Deputy Headteacher will lead on the development, monitoring and evaluation of all aspects relating to the quality of education in a key stage and in doing so, will contribute to the formation of a high performing secondary school. It is envisaged that both Deputies will switch key stage every couple of years.

In addition, the Deputy Headteacher will also work with the Headteacher on broader strategic as well as operational aspects of the school’s provision. The Deputy Headteacher will also have an appropriate teaching commitment and deputise for the Headteacher in his or her absence.
